Art is taught weekly by a specialist Art teacher from the Senior school.

Year 3

Year 3 children begin the year by focussing on still life line drawings, looking at 'Cezanne' and 'Courbett' for inspiration. They then produce art work based around the theme of Ancient Rome. They look carefully at landscapes and study artists such as 'Lowri'. towards the end of the year they begins self portraits, looking carefully at the positioning and shape of the features and they begin to add shade.

Year 4

In Art year 4 children study patterns both natural and man-made and recrete these using a variety of different mediums. They also build on skills learnt in year 3 and produce self-portraits. They not only look at tone, but begin to mix and use appropriate colours. Throughout the year they look at the work of many famous artists for inspiration.

Year 5

Year 5 study 'Mark Making' - they experiment with different materials and techniques to create a variety of 'line qualities' and 'marks'. Pupils use pencil, charcoal, graphite sticks, watercolour, acrylic paints and collage. The work of Vincent Van Gogh, and Gustav Klimt's 'landscapes' are examined for inspiration. the next topic is 'Elephants!' This is an opportunity for pupils to use 3D materials including; wire, newspaper, masking tape and paper mache. Pupils then examine the work of Arcimboldo - they then develop their own ideas using objects relating to their chosen 'theme' to build the features of the face.

Year 6

Year 6 begin by making 'Foil Figures' - pupils produce a series of drawings based on the 'human form' - examining 'shape' and 'proportion', they then make sculptures using wire, foil and sellotape - sections of their work can then be painted using glass paints. They also focus on the work of 'Matisse' - pupils examine the work of Henry Matisse's paper cut outs - exploring shape and colour. Finally they look at 'Sweets' exploring 'shape' and 'colour' to produce vibrant oil pastel drawings.
